Black Canyon of the Gunnison

The Black Canyon of the Gunnison’s unique and spectacular landscape was formed slowly by the action of water and rock scouring down through hard Proterozoic crystalline rock. No other canyon in North America combines the narrow opening, sheer walls, and startling depths offered by the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.

South Rim Visitor Center:The visitor center is open all year.  8:30 am – 4:00 pm, Summer Hours are 8:00 am – 6:00pm
North Rim: is open intermittently during the summer and closed the rest of the year.

Entrance Fee:
•  $15.00 per vehicle for single, private and noncommercial vehicles 
•  $7.00 per person for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorized vehicles
•  $30.00 for an Annual Pass

Curecanti
Three reservoirs, named for corresponding dams on the Gunnison River, form the heart of Curecanti. Blue Mesa Reservoir is Colorado’s largest body of water, and is the largest Kokanee Salmon fishery in the U.S.  Morrow Point Reservoir is the beginning of the Black Canyon, and below, East Portal is the site of the Gunnison Diversion Tunnel, a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. Enjoy Morrow Point Boat Tours, follow the progress of the Cimarron Trail Restoration Project with the Locomotive #278 and other rail cars, and don’t miss out on any recreational opportunities from boating and fishing to swimming and hiking, Curecanti has something for everyone! All boaters, please be aware that mussel inspections are taking place before and after launching.
